Put a spider on your house
Every spider on the street is one more for someone to find. Here is how to hang yours so it is fun to spot and safe to be near.

Make it easy to find
- Hang it where it can be seen from the sidewalk: eaves, trees, mailboxes, windows and fences all work.
- Mix high and low. A few spiders at eye level for the little ones, a few overhead for the sharp-eyed.
- Keep every spider on your own property. Nothing in the street, on the sidewalk or in a neighbor's yard unless they said yes.
- Put them up before Halloween night and take them down in early November.
Keep it safe
- Fasten it well. Texas wind will take a spider on a loose string, so use wire or zip ties.
- Keep power cords off walkways and out of puddles, and use outdoor-rated lights. Choose LED or battery lights over anything with a flame.
- Keep decorations away from candles, grills and anything hot.
- Use a stable ladder with someone holding it, or hang spiders where your feet stay on the ground.
- Skip anything that can trip, snag or hang at neck height for a kid walking by.
